Social Media Revolution

February 11th, 2010 § 0

Being quite active in the online networking world i sometimes come across internet content that says exactly what i have been thinking.

Yesterday was no different, so what made me want to blog about it? Well it touches on what is Social Media, which is a topic close to my heart especially as the press have described me as a Social Media expert as found here in the Birmingham Post.

I don’t regard myself as an expert, but just someone who goes about my business whether it be my tees, comic or consultancy.

What i like about Ashley Ford’s blog post is probably what a lot of web savvy people are thinking. What is Social Media apart from a load of marketing twaddle? Or in his words its just plain marketing bullshit

With my consultancy work, i come across a whole range of people. Some are very web savvy and others are terrified of the web. The guidance that i often give regarding use of web 2.0 technology is based on my own personal experiences as i have clocked up 1,000′s of commercial hours using web 2.0 in a cross section of industries and products.

For some of us what may appear as common sense, is not for others as it often isn’t that common and it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

If someone is telling you have to be on Twitter/Facebook/Flickr/Youtube/MySpace/BeBo or your business will suffer i would want to know why? After all, being on some Social Network sites can be a detriment to your brand if not used correctly or not add any value to your business if that is what you are looking to do.

I came across one local company the other week that have millions of people around the world using their products and they have 30 (ish) followers on Twitter. Go figure!
